Timothy Myers is a conductor whose work is defined by breadth of experience and clarity of intent. With an international career spanning opera, symphonic, and contemporary repertoire and projects, he is known for performances that balance structural precision with narrative immediacy and risk—approaching live performance as an essential, unrepeatable act of shared presence.
In September 2023, Myers was appointed Music Director of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, one of the world’s most prestigious ensembles for early-career classical musicians. In this role, he leads the annual formation of the orchestra, which serves as the musical backbone of Spoleto’s multidisciplinary festival, conducting symphonic programs, operas, and special projects.
In 2026, the orchestra releases its first-ever commercial recording in its 50-year history, launching a multi-project partnership with Apple Music Classical. The collaboration opens with Live from Spoleto 2025: Orchestra, released via Phenotypic Recordings, placing Spoleto among a small group of festivals worldwide—including Salzburg, Verbier, and Aspen—invited to Apple-exclusive releases.
Myers also serves as the Sarah and Ernest Butler Music Director of Austin Opera, where his work extends beyond the podium into artistic strategy and long-term vision, shaping how the company connects with audiences, artists, and the city it serves.
His leadership has included nationally broadcast PBS specials, large-scale site-specific productions such as Tosca at the Formula One “Circuit of the Americas”, cross-disciplinary collaborations in film and virtual reality, and the development of new works in partnership with major American opera companies—projects unified by a commitment to immediacy, presence, and the power of live experience.
A sought-after speaker on leadership, innovation, and listening, Myers draws on his experience leading international ensembles and multidisciplinary institutions to examine how attention, trust, and clarity shape high-performing teams. Central to his perspective is a belief in live performance as a uniquely human act—one that reveals how presence, shared intention, and real-time decision-making create meaning in ways no other medium can.
A protégé of Lorin Maazel, Myers holds degrees from Southwestern College and Florida State University, completed the Program for Leadership Development (Executive MBA) at Harvard Business School, and is a voting member of the Recording Academy.
